The Chevrolet Avalanche is a four door sport utility truck that is built on GM's long wheel base frame from the Suburban and available in a half ton or three quarter ton rated model. Introduced in 2002 and still in production it has seen only three generations, or body style changes. It shares it's body styling and drive train with the Silverado, Tahoe, Yukon and more. The Avalanche was originally marketed as being able to "change from a pickup to a SUV". This was made possible by a plastic bed cover and the mid-gate which could open and close. The mid-gate was a divider behind the second row of seats that could be folded down along with the rear seats, to create a longer bed area, or folded up to make a larger interior cab area.
